The safety of an apartment should always be in the first place among its owners, for this it is necessary to install a solid front door with a high-quality lock. Particular attention must be paid to the choice of the castle, a well-chosen castle is a guarantee of security.
Today, many thieves thoroughly studied the old mechanisms of door locks, so it is likely that the old castle will be successfully cracked. Then what to do? What to look for today?
Technological progress has reached the point where old mechanical locks have faded into the background, giving way to electronic locks. For greater protection, they are equipped with electronics that are harder to crack.
Types of Electronic Locks
Today, there are two main types of Electronic Door Locks:
Electromagnetic – the main way to fix the door of this type of lock is a magnet. As a rule, it is installed on a jamb. Using a pre-installed metal plate, contact occurs between it and the magnet, and under power, the door is constantly in the closed position. Typically, these locks are either coded or with support for proxy cards.
Electromechanical – this type of lock supports opening a door, either with a key or with a card or access code. At its core, such a lock is somewhat similar to a classic mechanical lock, however, an additional magnetic lock is provided in the design itself. With the help of an electric motor, the door closes and opens.
Combination lock
Combination locks are notable for their ease of opening. The main thing is to know the numerical code that is sewn into the lock’s memory. With the correct combination entered, the door opens, otherwise, after several incorrect attempts, the lock will be locked.
Such a lock includes a dialling code panel and a locking device. The main scope is production facilities, entrance doors to the entrances of residential buildings.
Electromagnetic lock with support for proxy cards
This type of Electronic Door Lock is unique by the presence of additional readers for identifying proxy cards (small plastic cards inside which a radio module is sewn).
When bringing such a card to the reader, the lock controller reads the programmed code from the card and sends a command to open, at this time the relay is activated and the power from the electromagnet disappears- the door can be opened.
After a few seconds, the power is again supplied to the lock and the door is locked. Simply put, if there is a card in the castle’s memory, then the door can be opened, otherwise, nothing will happen.
Locks with a biometric module
If we talk about the degree of reliability, it is generally accepted that locks with biometrics are nowhere more reliable. Such locks can be found in banks, where access is made after the sensor reads either a fingerprint or retina.
This type of lock is based on a scanner that checks fingerprints with pre-recorded ones from the controller database. To do this, in advance, employees scan as many fingerprints as possible and enter them into the castle database.
